Afghan Cycles – A Collaboration of Teams

A feature documentary about a new generation of young Afghan women challenging gender and cultural barriers using the bicycle as a vehicle for freedom and social change.
 –

SARAH MENZIES – DIRECTOR – Sarah has been a freelance videographer and filmmaker since 2010 and founded the production company Let Media in 2012.

SHANNON GALPIN – PRODUCER + NON PROFIT PARTNER – National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, Shannon Galpin founded the non profit Mountain2Mountain to work with women and girls in conflict zones. As a single speed mountain biker focused on breaking gender barriers, in 2009 she became the first woman to mountain bike in Afghanistan, and now supports the Afghan Women’s National Cycling Team.

JENNY NICHOLS – DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY + PRODUCER – Jenny worked with the International League of Conservation Photographers for five years, during that time she participating in extensive expeditions in environmental hotspots with many of the world’s most celebrated photographers. Since moving on from the iLCP, driven by her desire to share the stories of critical social and ecological issues, she founded the production company Pongo Media.

ANNA BRONES – PRODUCER + WRITER – Anna is a freelance journalist and producer who has previously worked in Afghanistan. She epitomizes the belief that a bicycle is a vehicle for social change, which is translated into her conversations with sponsors and nonprofits, to build out the platform for engagement. She is the author of The Culinary Cyclist.
